SUSAN G. KOMEN®’s MORE THAN PINK WALK® TO RETURN TO SOUTH CAROLINA ON OCTOBER 2ND

Virtual events unite South Carolinians together to fight breast cancer

JUNE 2, 2021– Susan G. Komen®, the world’s leading breast cancer organization, invites all South Carolinians to take part in the organization’s signature fundraising event to help save lives from breast cancer on the first Saturday of October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Now in its second year as a virtual experience, the MORE THAN PINK Walk brings together an empowered community of hope to raise funds that will save lives from breast cancer through advocacy, research and direct patient care.

Due to health and safety guidelines, Komen transitioned the Lowcountry and Mountains to Midlands More Than Pink Walks last year to a new virtual format and raised nearly $90,000 for the fight against breast cancer. Komen is continuing with the virtual platform for 2021, with a new shared moment of impact across the state with opportunities for participants and survivors to engage from home. No matter where you live in South Carolina, you can join this passionate community of hope and help raise funds to save lives from breast cancer.

The Walk Day program will be hosted via YouTube and Facebook Live, and will include a survivor/thriver meet-up, recognition of top fundraising individuals and teams, messages of support from community partners, and a live warm-up to send participants off on their remote routes.

The 2021 Lowcountry MORE THAN PINK Walk is proudly supported by long-time sponsors, South Carolina Federal Credit Union and The Center for Natural Breast Reconstruction. “We are so grateful for our corporate partners who have helped fuel our mission and continue to provide our community with an opportunity to come together to share stories, laughter and tears,” said Erica Boles, Komen’s Development Director for North and South Carolina.

With the Walks being virtual, individuals and companies are encouraged to register, start a team, set a fundraising goal, and invite their networks to participate wherever they are. Fundraising challenges will take place throughout the season and provide a fun way for companies, families, and community organizations to stay connected while supporting Susan G. Komen’s mission remotely.

There is no fee to register for the fundraising events or to access the online fundraising tools. “We look forward to seeing everyone across the state joining us on October 2nd for a day of inspiration and hope as we honor those we have lost, celebrate those who have survived, and support everyone currently living with breast cancer,” added Boles. “Even when we are apart, we will show that no one walks alone!”
